Thrifting Today #5

From the Goodwill Stores in Boynton Beach and Delray Beach, Florida

Yesterday after some much needed beach time, Suzie and I hit our two nearest Goodwill stores.  We found some very nice items.  It also happened to be senior day (I’m not a senior, but get the discount unasked – I would be offended if it did not save me money).

Here are the items we picked up:

Auction Finds - February 10, 2012

This past Friday evening, Suzie and I switched up our auction destination.  We previewed our favorite auctions online and determined that South Florida Estate Buyers auction had more of the items we look to purchase.

When we arrived we discovered that this auction had expanded in size and had many more bidders/buyers present.  That is not necessarily a good sign.  Some of the early items we had on our radar quickly reached prices beyond what we wanted to pay.

Thrifting Today #4

From the Goodwill Store in Boynton Beach, Florida

This thrifting trip was all Suzie.  The past few times we have gone, she feels like I have rushed her.  Perhaps.  Anyway she scored some very nice items.  I am pretty sure that one or two of these items might make the Cha-Ching category in the near future.

sale

Most thrift stores have some sort of system for discounting their stuff.  It is always great when the item I want to buy is marked down from the already low thrift store price.

When we enter a thrift store, we always check out the signs to discover what is on sale for the day.  We pay attention to any discounts on books and clothes.  All of the clothes are labelled with a colored tag.  Every so often a different colored tag indicates a 50% off sale.  Half off is great.  Often the items that are of the sale color have been around for awhile.  We find some clothing items for half price, but most items we choose are not under this sale.

For example, we bought about a dozen clothing items today.  Two of these were tagged with the 50% off colored tag.

Thrifting Today #3

Atari

The previous day at the thrift store, I had spotted something that I wanted to research a little bit more.  Having completed my research, I decided that I wanted to return to pick up the item.  So off Suzie and I went to the thrift store.

We arrived and headed straight to the item.  It was still available.  However upon closer inspection, the item had some quality issues that we were not comfortable having for this type of item.  (See the post on Product Selection and Inspection).  We passed on purchasing the item.

1989 Philadelphia Trivia Game

This afternoon Suzie and I hit our nearest thrift store.  We found this Philadelphia Trivia Game from 1989.  The great news is that the game is still in its original shrink wrap.

According to the box, players move around the Giant Soft Pretzel by answering questions about the history, sports, entertainment, people and events of the City of Brotherly Love.

Today Suzie and I hit one of our local thrift stores.  We found these three mugs from the Pottery Barn Reindeer collection.  I have not researched them yet, but know they are a good find.  Soon we will have them listed for sale in our eBay store.
