Selling Like Hotcakes #2: Lynn Chase Designs Dinnerware

I love it when something artistic is coupled with something functional.  Such is the case for dinnerware designed by Lynn Chase Designs.  Lynn Chase is a New York artist who developed a line of home goods that reflect her artistic abilities.

Chase is a self-taught artist who was influenced by her grandmother.  She has been on seven safaris, traveled extensively in Africa and resided on the continent for a few years.  The African wildlife she observed is vividly displayed in her dinnerware.

Recently we found items from two of her dinnerware lines.  We are glad that we did.  Here are the items we have sold recently.

I just hope the FedEx guy in this video never delivers any of my packages.  The package in the video is a clearly identified video monitor.  The customer indicated that he was home at the time with his door open.

Having a business that I run out of my house puts me in control of most aspects of my business.  I sell what I want to sell.  I design my own listings.  I personally interact with my customers.  I package my products.

Selling Like Hotcakes #1: Ralph Lauren Blake Men’s Shirts

You are probably familiar with the name Ralph Lauren.  You are also probably familiar with the brand Polo.  When we begin branching into selling clothing, we knew we wanted to take advantage of the quality and the popularity of Ralph Lauren’s products.

We discovered that Ralph Lauren is simply the umbrella name.  Various style names exist.  The company also uses various label colors to differentiate the levels of their clothing.

We have found that some styles sell better than others on eBay.  Sellers will find that some label colors and style names will sell quicker and for more money than will others.

One of our favorite style names to sell is the Ralph Lauren Blake.  In the past few weeks, we have sold four of these shirts for a healthy return on our investment.  We pay between $1 to $4 for these shirts.  Here are the ones we have sold recently.

Selling Like Hotcakes

Hotcakes

Do you like hotcakes?  Who doesn’t?

Selling hotcakes is another matter.  Most people who eat hotcakes eat them in the early morning.  So people who sell hotcakes have to rise before the sun to make them.

Some of these early risers obviously have sold quite a few hotcakes.  We relate items that sell well to hotcakes.  ”They (whatever) sell like hotcakes” is a part of our vernacular.

So what sells like hotcakes?  More importantly to our business is, “What sells like hotcakes online?”

You Had Me At Bacon

You had me at bacon.  Say what?  That doesn’t sound exactly like the quote from Jerry McGuire.

We seldom pick up slogan shirts to sell, but I could not pass this one up.  Today it sold in our eBay store to a customer in Wisconsin.  After all, who can pass up bacon (unless your diet is kosher).  Perhaps it was bacon that caused the statement, The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

1996 Chicago Bulls – NBA Championship Hat

Even though the NBA season is on hold due to labor issues, we still invested $2 in a Chicago Bulls hat.  This hat commemorated the 1996 NBA Championship won by the Bulls.  Of course, those were the days of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and gang.

We listed this on auction during a special that eBay was running.  It cost only a penny to list.  We set the initial bid to be $9.99 plus $5.95 for shipping.  33 bids later this hat was being shipped to Maine.

What was the winning bid?

Find of the Day: Mickey Mouse & Walt Disney Mug

Disney Mug

Yesterday, Suzie and I stopped by a large thrift store in our area.  Our favorite find of the day was this beautiful Disney mug.  The tall mug has a black and white photo of Walt Disney standing on an early and empty Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom.  A full color Mickey Mouse is in the middle appearing to be talking to Walt Disney.  Cinderella’s castle is in the background.

We found this mug for $0.95.  It is listed in our eBay store at an initial price of $24.99 including free shipping.  Check it out here.  It is a little higher than some other mugs we sell, but it is a great one.  We have it in our dining room display case.  It won’t bother us if we don’t sell it for awhile.

Trivial Pursuit

Recently while strolling through one of our thrift stores, Suzie spotted something on the bottom shelf.  She pulled it out to show me.  It was a Trivial Pursuit board game.  It was the version of Greatest Hits (80′s, 90′s and Pop Culture).  The best thing about it was that it was still sealed in the original wrapping – brand new condition.

I checked my iPhone app for Amazon and decided it would be worth the purchase.  We paid $3 for it and I listed it on Amazon.  For sellers, new games usually provide a bigger payday than does eBay.  I matched the few other listing prices on Amazon.  Yesterday it sold to a customer in Florida.  How much?
