Jim “Griff” Griffin and Michael Jones provide some insights from eBay about the new changes announced for eBay sellers.

We have chosen to partner with eBay in our business.  The changes announced seem to be very positive in nature for the seller.  The new requirements are pretty much things we already do, so we won’t have much to alter.

eBay Seller Update Spring 2012

Ten Newbie Picker Tips

My Friend Frank Gantz, co-owner of Fruzie’s Collectibles, and EBay Power Seller with over 1,000 positive feedbacks asked me to submit a guest piece for his blog, and I am very honored to do so.  I’ve learned a lot from reading his blog and watching his practices with his EBay store.

I’m writing from the perspective of a newbie picker and EBay seller – as of this writing, I have 88 positive feedbacks on EBay and have been selling intentionally for about a year.  I spend my Saturday mornings going to estate sales, yard sales, and thrift stores looking for things to sell online.  I also troll craigslist for things I know I can buy cheap and sell on EBay with a good margin.

The secondary market is exploding right now.  People are looking for bargains for their home, and also for a way to generate extra income by reselling stuff online.  Between the economy, the popularity of American Pickers, Pawn Stars, and Storage Wars, more people than ever are turning to picking, storage auctions, and EBay sales as additional streams of income.  I’ve been bitten by the bug myself, and in this post want to share some of the lessons I’ve learned that have made this a fun and profitable hobby.

Selling Like Hotcakes #4: Signature Collection Queen Anne China

Signature Collection Queen Anne China

My mother-in-law recently cleaned out her closets as she prepared for a move to another part of the state.  She asked if we would try to sell her china set on eBay.  We did and it has been selling like hotcakes.

Instead of listing the china as a set, we listed the individual pieces.  Even for pieces that had multiple pieces (i.e. plates), we made the listings for a quantity of one with multiple quantities available.  That way people can pick up however many pieces they need to complete their set.  We do provide shipping discounts for purchases of multiple units.

Fruzies Featured on The eBay Life Blog

For some time I have been reading The eBay Life Blog by Miriam Otto.  I knew that she has successfully created an eBay business and has been willing to share her wisdom with others.  She even shoots video of her yard sale finds.

So I was thrilled when Miriam shot me an email with a link to her latest blog post.  It was a post about Fruzies.  Yeah!  Be sure to check out what she wrote about a recent score we had:

The eBay Life “Score of the Day” is a set of Boch Fes La Louviere plates bought at auction last week….

Cha-Ching: Boch Fes La Louviere Plates

Boch Fes La Louviere Plates

Last week we posted an article about some purchases we made at a local auction.  I am pleased to report that we have already flipped part of the purchases from that auction.

I am even more pleased that this sale is the highest dollar sale that we have had since we began selling on eBay.

The Customer That Changed My Life

Cha-Ching: Michael Jordan #23 Chicago Bulls Jersey

We found this jersey a few weeks ago at one of our local thrift stores.  We picked it up for under $2. I was excited by it.  Suzie not so much.  When I listed it for the amount that I did, Suzie figured that this would sit on our shelf until I came to my senses.

While doing my research, I noticed that a few of these had been available and sold anywhere from $18 to $40.  I decided to go high with mine since it was a special shirt for the player many consider to be the best ever in the NBA.

When my phone made the cha-ching sound and I saw what had sold, I got excited.  I knew before looking what the price was since I did not allow for any best offers on this listing.

Thrifting Today #5

From the Goodwill Stores in Boynton Beach and Delray Beach, Florida

Yesterday after some much needed beach time, Suzie and I hit our two nearest Goodwill stores.  We found some very nice items.  It also happened to be senior day (I’m not a senior, but get the discount unasked – I would be offended if it did not save me money).

Here are the items we picked up:

Auction Finds #1

Auction Finds - February 10, 2012

This past Friday evening, Suzie and I switched up our auction destination.  We previewed our favorite auctions online and determined that South Florida Estate Buyers auction had more of the items we look to purchase.

When we arrived we discovered that this auction had expanded in size and had many more bidders/buyers present.  That is not necessarily a good sign.  Some of the early items we had on our radar quickly reached prices beyond what we wanted to pay.
